Movie Review: Classic And Entertaining Action Is On Full Display In JOHN WICK.

John Wick

Director: Chad Stahelski
Cast: Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Ian McShane, and Willem Dafoe.
Rated R for strong and bloody violence throughout, language, and brief drug use.

No one had heard of this movie even a month ago. Somehow it crept up on us without too much attention or buzz, but I'm here to tell you that John Wick is a wildly entertaining action revenge flick. Nothing more, nothing less.

The plot is simple and nothing new. Some Russian thugs break into a man's home, beat him ruthlessly, kill his dog that his dying wife left him, and steal his car. What the mobsters didn't realize was that this man was a notorious contract killer. Now, the mob must move heaven and earth to try and stop John Wick (Reeves) from tearing them all down one by one.

Seriously, there really is not much to evaluate here. It's no secret that Keanu Reeves can be a stiff actor, but given the right roles he can lead some awesomely entertaining action flicks like Point Break, Speed, and The Matrix. Well, John Wick is a return to form for Reeves. Much like Taken, this movie gives you a simple plot and then enjoys the hell out of shooting its way through it.

All I wanted was a fun action flick, and I got that and more. The action is fun to watch and is executed with a lot of creativity. This is by no means a high quality film, but as an action film it knows exactly what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything else. I loved it for that. If you're looking for an exciting and fun piece of entertainment, then John Wick may be just what you need.

RATING: A-
