Rated PG for adventure action and some mild rude humor.

For a long time, Pixar seemed to own the animated genre, but now other studios have answered with some animated classics of their own. DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon was a surprise hit with audiences and critics four years ago. Now, the highly anticipated sequel has delivered with even more heart than the first.

Hiccup has now become a man. His village has welcomed their new dragon allies and life has never been better. His father, Stoick, wants Hiccup to prepare to lead the village as chief, but Hiccup feels inadequate to fill his father's shoes. As Hiccup and his trusty dragon, Toothless, are exploring unknown lands they discover a terrifying threat to their village and their new way of life with dragons. It's up to Hiccup, his friends, father, and new allies to fight off the evil Drago and his formidable dragon army.

The animation is truly spectacular, particularly the flying sequences with Hiccup and Toothless finding new heights. The film really excels at developing these characters and further establishing the strong bond between Hiccup and Toothless. The voice cast is wonderful with each actor having fun with their respective roles. The music by John Powell is rousing and magical, but what really makes these films stand with the best that animation has to offer is the surprising amount of heart that is riddled throughout the film. The emotional pull here is even stronger than the first film. This is a series that can be equally enjoyed by both adults and children. There are not many animated movies coming out in the next month, so be sure to treat yourself and your kids to this gem.
